Instead, wash your skin twice a day with a gentle, PH-neutral cleanser so as not to destroy the acid mantle of the skin, which protects against moisture loss and bacteria. Remove the cleanser with a muslin cloth to lightly exfoliate the skin.

Eating a balanced diet with plenty of nutrients and antioxidants is one of the key factors behind beautiful looking skin. However, there are also certain foods you can cut back on or eat more of in order to help get rid of spots. Research suggests that dairy is a major precursor of acne for many people due to the hormones it contains. Plastic water bottles and food packaging can also leach out chemicals which can lead to hormone imbalance. 17 tips for healthy hair and skin


Cosmetologist Dr Rekha Sheth shares her tips for healthy hair and skin.

- Remember that the most important factors that decide the quality of your skin and hair are your genes and family history, your nerves and emotions, and your immune system.

- Use an appropriate face wash meant for your skin type and wash twice a day.

- Use cleansers at night to remove make up and dirt before using a face wash.

- Use sunscreen everyday even if you are indoors - the sun's UVA rays come through windows too and contribute to aging, pigmenting and tanning. Ideally, sunscreen should be applied every three hours.

- Sunscreen should have an SPF of 30 or more. SPF is the degree of protection against UVB rays, hence sunscreen must have UVA protection as well. The usual UVA protection ingredients are Avobenzone, Titanium dioxide, Zinc oxide, Mexoryl and Tinosorb.

- Make up products like foundations, mineral powders and compacts do not have adequate sun protection.

- Indian skin tends to tan and pigment easily and patchily. There is a very thin line between tanning and pigmentation. If your tan hasn't gone in 4-6 weeks, see a dermatologist.

- It is advisable to use mild skin lightening creams as prevention. Look for botanical ingredients like Arbutin, Bearberry, Licorice, Mulberry, Ginseng, Gingko, Emblica, Turmeric - curcuma, Grapeseed and vitamins like C and A, and Niacinamide.

- Aging can be intrinsic, i.e. genetic, and can be delayed by exercise and, to a lesser extent, through diet. Extrinsic factors include increased UV intensity, increased pollution as well as stress. All these factors tend to dry the skin and make it more prone to pigmentation and aging. Hence it is important to start caring for your skin in your teens.

- Extrinsic factors produce Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS), which are naughty oxygen molecules that damage the cells and make them age faster. Anti-oxidants neutralise these ROS.

- At night, use a moisturiser with an age-protecting agent.

- For younger skin, look for ingredients with antioxidants like vitamins C, E or a whole range of botanicals like green tea, grapeseed or pomegranate extract, curcumin, etc. You might also like to look out for the following: Genistein, ECGC, Resveratrol, Idebenone and Coenzyme Q10 or CoQ10.

- Kitchen ingredients like fruits do not work.

- For older skin, look for the following ingredients: peptides, vitamin A and derivatives like retinol and other retinoids, Alpha, beta and polyhydroxy acids.

- Exfoliation should be done with extreme caution and only with modern bead exfoliators. Avoid granular scrubs as these tend to damage the skin microscopically, which can lead to slow, insidious and patchy darkening.

- It is advisable to visit a dermatologist at least once a year. There are a lot of nuances in skin colour, texture, smoothness, etc. that we can't see for ourselves. These can be detected by the dermatologist and mild creams/treatments can be recommended.

- Always use a conditioner after you shampoo your hair. It protects your hair and is a better option than oil. Conditioners neutralise electrical charge in the hair shaft and help in detangling. Conditioners also improve shine and to some extent repair minor frays in the hair shaft. Conditioning agents like hydrolized protein or silicons are added to increase manageability and shine in the hair.

Health Solutions with Vegetables, Fruits and Spices


[1] COLDS:

Mix a gram of dalchini/cinnamon powder with a teaspoon of honey to cure cold. Prepare a cup of tea to which you should add ginger, clove, bay leaf and black pepper. This should be consumed twice a day. Reduce the intake as the cold disappears.



[2] GINGER FOR COLDS:

Ginger tea is very good to cure cold. Preparation of tea: cut ginger into small pieces and boil it with water, boil it a few times and then add sugar to sweeten and milk to taste, and drink it hot.



[3] DRY COUGHS:

Add a gram of Turmeric(Haldi) powder to a teaspoonful of
Honey for curing dry cough. Also chew a Cardamom for
a long time.



[4] BLOCKED NOSE:

For blocked nose or to relieve congestion, take one tablespoon of crushed carom seeds(ajwain), tie it in a cloth and inhale it.



[5] SORE THROAT:

Add a tea spoon of cumin seeds (jeera) and a few small pieces of dry ginger to a glass of boiling water. Simmer it for a few minutes, and then let it cool. Drink it twice daily. This will cure cold as well as sour throat.



[6] AJWAIN/AJMO FOR ASTHMA:

Dried ajwain fruits
Boil Ajwain(Ajmo) in water and inhale the steam.



[7] CURE FOR BACKACHE:

Rub ginger paste on the backache to get relief.



[8] GARLIC FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE:

Have 1-2 pod Garlic(Lasan) first thing in the morning with water.



[9] HONEY AND GINGER FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE:

Mix 1 tablespoon and 1 tablespoon of Ginger(Adrak) juice, 1 tablespoon of crushed cumin seeds(Jeera), and have it twice daily.



[10] MIGRAINE:

For the cure of migraine or acute cold in the head; boil a tablespoon of pepper powder, and a pinch of turmeric in a cup
of milk, and have it daily for a few couple of days.



[11] BITTER GOURD(KARELA) FOR BLOOD SUGAR CONTROL:

A tablespoon of amla juice mixed with a cup of fresh bitter Gourd(Karela) juice and taken daily for 2 months reduces blood sugar.



[12] CURE FOR INJURIES - TURMERIC(HALDI):

For any cut or wound, apply turmeric powder to the injured portion to stop the bleeding. It also works as an antiseptic. You can tie a bandage after applying turmeric(haldi).



[13] CRAMPS:

You must do a self-massage using mustard oil every morning. Just take a little oil between your palms and rub it all over your body. Then take a shower. This is especially beneficial during winter. You could also mix a little mustard powder with water to make a paste and apply this on your palms and soles of your feet.



[14] HEADACHES:

If you have a regular migraine problem, include five almonds along with hot milk in your daily diet. You could also have a gram of black pepper along with honey or milk, twice or thrice a day. Make an almond paste by rubbing wet almonds against a stone. This can be applied to forehead.

Eat an apple with a little salt on an empty stomach everyday and see its wonderful effects.

when headache is caused by cold winds, cinnamon works best in curing headache. Make a paste of cinnamon by mixing in water and apply it all over your forehead

Soak 3-4 figs in a glass of water. Keep it overnight. Consume the figs on an empty stomach, the next day in the morning



[22] VOMITING:

Take 2 cardamoms(elaichi) and roast them on a dry pan(tavaa). Powder the cardamoms and thereafter add one teaspoon of honey in it. Consume it frequently. It serves as a fabulous home remedy for vomiting.

In the mixture of 1 teaspoon of mint juice and 1 teaspoon of lime juice, add 1 teaspoon of ginger juice and 1 teaspoon of honey. Drink this mixture to prevent vomiting.

OR
Lime juice is an effective remedy for vomiting. Take a glass of chilled lime juice and sip slowly. To prevent vomiting, drink ginger tea.

OR
In 1 glass water, add some honey and drink sip by sip.



[23] WARTS:

Apply castor oil daily over the problematic area. Continue for several months.

OR
Apply milky juice of fresh and barely-ripe figs a number of times a day. Continue for two weeks.

Rub cut raw potatoes on the affected area several times daily. Continue for at least two weeks.

Honey is the only food on the planet that will not spoil or rot. What it will do is what some call 'turning to sugar'. In reality, honey is always honey. However, when left in a cool dark place for a long time it will "crystallize". When this happens, loosen the lid, boil some water and sit the honey container in the hot water, but turn off the heat and let it liquefy naturally. It is then as good as it ever was. Never boil honey or put it in a microwave. This will kill the enzymes in the honey.

FACTS OF HONEY AND CINNAMON COMBINATION:


It is found that a mixture of honey and Cinnamon cures most diseases. Honey is produced in most of the countries of the world. Scientists of today also accept honey as a 'Ram Ban' (very effective) medicine for all kinds of diseases. Honey can be used without side effects for any kind of diseases. Today's science says that even though honey is sweet, when it is taken in the right dosage as a medicine, it does not harm even diabetic patients. Weekly World News, a magazine in Canada , in its issue dated 17 January, 1995 has given the following list of diseases that can be cured by honey and cinnamon, as researched by western scientists.

HEART DISEASES:

ARTHRITIS:


Arthritis patients may take daily (morning and night) one cup of hot water with two tablespoons of honey and one small teaspoon of cinnamon powder. When taken regularly even chronic arthritis can be cured. In a recent research conducted at the Copenhagen University, it was found that when the doctors treated their patients with a mixture of one tablespoon Honey and half teaspoon Cinnamon powder before breakfast, they found that within a week (out of the 200 people so treated) practically 73 patients were totally relieved of pain -- and within a month, most all the patients who could not walk or move around because of arthritis now started walking without pain.

BLADDER INFECTIONS:


Take two tablespoons of cinnamon powder and one teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it. It destroys the germs in the bladder.

CHOLESTEROL:


Two tablespoons of honey and three teaspoons of Cinnamon Powder mixed in 16 ounces of tea water given to a cholesterol patient was found to reduce the level of cholesterol in the blood by 10 percent within two hours. As mentioned for arthritic patients, when taken three times a day, any chronic cholesterol is cured. According to information received in the said Journal, pure honey taken with food daily relieves complaints of cholesterol.

Those suffering from common or severe colds should take one tablespoon lukewarm honey with 1/4 spoon cinnamon powder daily for three days. This process will cure most chronic cough, cold, and, clear the sinuses.

When taken regularly, it reduces the weight of even the most obese person. CANCER:


Recent research in Japan and Australia has revealed that advanced cancer of the stomach and bones have been cured successfully. Patients suffering from these kinds of cancer should daily take one tablespoon of honey with one teaspoon of cinnamon powder three times a day for one month.

Dark circles under the eyes


Dark circles under the eyes tell us about the health of an individual. They are produced due to overstrain, after an illness or an allergy. They can also be the result of undernourishment. But these dark circles do not produce any harm to the body. So anybody with dark circles should not worry about them. In fact, sometimes they're not even an indication of physical problems.

Dark circles can be aggravated by fatigue, allergies, overexposure to the sun, menstruation or pregnancy. But they're usually  hereditary; if your parents have them, there are more chances that you do, too have them.

Dark circles are the result of the engorged blood vessels under your eyes. Because the skin under eyes is thinner than skin anywhere else on body, therefore blood vessels there are more noticeable, especially in fair skinned persons. Usually, dark circles are caused by hyper pigmentation of melanin, the substance that gives color to the skin.

In western countries, the kidneys are related to the adrenal glands and with stress levels in life being so high; these glands are very often exhausted. When these glands are weakened, allergies are prevalent. Dark circles under the eyes are known to be a classic symptom of an allergy, together other signs including edema and fatigue.

Dark circles under eyes may also be due to aging which thins the skin around the eyes.

Eight hours of sleep is essential.

Do not leave cream on the skin around the eyes for long periods.
Circles under the eyes can worsen in people who smoke or suffer from allergies.
 
 HOME REMEDIES FOR DARK CIRCLES UNDER THE EYES
  • Apply a cold compress this will help to constrict blood vessels and turns tissue white, and dark circles will lighten.
  • Drink at least eight to ten glasses of water everyday.
  • Put slices of raw potatoes or cucumber by closing eyes over the eyelids for 15-20 minutes. Wash with warm water and apply a cream.
  • Take out the juice of the cucumber. Prepare a mixture of lemon juice, lanolin cream and cucumber juice and apply around the eye for 10-15 minutes.
  • Prepare a mixture by adding equal quantity of potato and cucumber juices. Dip a cotton swab in this mixture and put the cotton on eyelids and keep for 20 minutes. Wash your eyes with cold water.
  • Prepare a mixture of lemon and tomato juice (equal parts) and apply it on the black circles 2 times a day.
  • Make a paste of turmeric powder with pineapple juice for dark circles under the eyes.
  • Apply crushed mint around the eye.
  • Another home remedy for dark circles under the eyes is - massage with almond oil under and around eyes at bedtime daily for 2 weeks. Almond helps to remove dark circles.
  • No cream should be left on the skin around the eyes for long periods.
  • Rub the area with a powdered Vitamin E capsule and wash off with a mixture of honey and egg white.
  • Put hot and cold clothes alternatively under eyes for 10 minutes. Then apply some almond oil on the dark circles before going to bed.
  • The acupressure point for eyes is on the mount below the index finger of your palms. Pressing this mount may help.
  • Dip some carrot leave in hot water and leave for a few minutes. Drink the liquid 3 times a day before meals.
  • Dip cotton balls in rose water or cold water and keep under the eyes for 10 minutes.
  • Make a paste of 1 tsp. tomato juice, 1/2 tsp. lemon juice, a pinch of turmeric powder, and 1 tsp. of flour. Apply around eyes. Leave on for 10 minutes before washing. This is an effective home remedy for dark circle treatment.
  • Take some freezed parsley. Use the parsley cubes instead of eye creams to reduce the dark circles and puffiness. Parsley is packed with chlorophyll which helps fade darkness, while the ice cubes reduce the swelling.
  • Takes vasoline, put it on a metal spoon and freeze it for 15 minutes. Then apply it to the eyes for a few minutes.
  • Add some mint leaves, lemon juice, and salt to tomato juice and drink.
  • Grate some cucumber and freeze in an ice tray. Massage frozen cucumber cubes onto eyes to reduce puffiness and dark circles.
  • Avoid excess of chocolates and try to take more fibres in the diet.
  • To prevent dark circles take 2 magnesium tablets per day, especially if you're taking calcium.
  • Use a sunscreen especially made for the face with a sun protection factor (SPF) to keep the sun's rays from darkening the skin under your eyes
  • Eat vegetables and fruits rich in vitamin A for the treatment of dark circles under eyes

Feel like you have trained yourself but it doesn’t means that you couldn’t even lift your hand or feeling lazy to go to the bathroom.

  • Eating is the most important factor that influences the growth of a body. There are two most important times one should to should, that are when you wake up and after your workout. You need healthy breakfast to start your workout. It may consist of carbs with some proteins. Egg whites, low-fat yogurt, milk and cereals are a good example in that case. After workouts you need to regain the energy you have spent, much complex carbs and complete proteins are required in that case. Going for chicken breast or carbs + protein shake is good idea after workouts. You should consume your post workout meal within 90 mins after the workout. Except that you should consume about six small healthy meals during the day.

  • During weight lifting your muscle fibers tear down. When you have completed your workout the tissue rebuilding process starts. You should give your body adequate rests between the workouts. If you are a beginner don’t train yourself more than five times in a week. Never work on the same muscle on repeated days. Besides proper sleep helps your body become sharper physically and mentally. A minimum 8 hour sleep is recommended for the weight trainers.

Butane
